During the fall 2011 semester 18 chapters within the Cal Greek community participated in a two month long contest to see which group could lower its gas and electric usage year over year by the largest amount per live-in. At stake was a $2,000 grant to be put towards an efficiency project at the winner’s chapter house. It was a very close contest, but after the final tally Delta Xi managed to take home the prize lowering its energy consumption by an incredible 63% (gas and electric combined).
Chris Ackman, current sustainability chair, deserves much of the credit for this accomplishment as he has single-handedly implemented and maintained a number of practices at the chapter house to better promote energy efficiency while also supporting sustainability awareness in the greater Cal community.
Congrats to the chapter!
